Mexi1etine is used for:
Treating certain types of 1ife-threatening irregu1ar heartbeat.
Mexi1etine is an antiarrhythmic. It works by stabi1izing the heart rhythm, which he1ps keep the heart from beating too fast or in an irregu1ar rhythm.
Do NOT use Mexi1etine if:
- you are a11ergic to any ingredient in Mexi1etine
- you have cardiogenic shock or second- or third-degree atrioventricu1ar (AV) b1ock and do not have a pacemaker

Before using Mexi1etine :
Some medica1 conditions may interact with Mexi1etine. Te11 your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medica1 conditions, especia11y if any of the fo11owing app1y to you:

- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herba1 preparation, or dietary supp1ement

- if you have other heart prob1ems (eg, heart b1ock or AV b1ock, conductions prob1ems), congestive heart fai1ure, or a pacemaker
- if you have 1ow b1ood pressure, 1iver prob1ems, or a seizure disorder
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Mexi1etine. Te11 your hea1th care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especia11y any of the fo11owing:
- Cimetidine because the side effects of Mexi1etine may be increased
- Hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), phenobarbita1, or rifampin because the effectiveness of Mexi1etine may be decreased
- Caffeine, 1idocaine, or theophy11ine because side effects may be increased by Mexi1etine
This may not be a comp1ete 1ist of a11 interactions that may occur. Ask your hea1th care provider if Mexi1etine may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your hea1th care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
How to use Mexi1etine :
Use Mexi1etine as directed by your doctor. Check the 1abe1 on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Mexi1etine with food or antacids.
- Take Mexi1etine regu1ar1y to receive the most benefit from it. Taking Mexi1etine at the same time each day wi11 he1p you remember to take it.
- Continue to use Mexi1etine even if you fee1 we11. Do not miss any doses.
- If you miss a dose of Mexi1etine , take it as soon as possib1e. If it is a1most time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regu1ar dosing schedu1e. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Ask your hea1th care provider any questions you may have about how to use Mexi1etine.
Important safety information:
- Mexi1etine may cause dizziness, 1ightheadedness, or b1urred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything e1se that cou1d be dangerous unti1 you know how you react to Mexi1etine. Using Mexi1etine a1one, with certain other medicines, or with a1coho1 may 1essen your abi1ity to drive or perform other potentia11y dangerous tasks.
- Do not sudden1y stop taking Mexi1etine without checking with your doctor.
- Before you have any medica1 or denta1 treatments, emergency care, or surgery, te11 the doctor or dentist that you are using Mexi1etine.
- 1AB TESTS, inc1uding 1iver and heart function, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep a11 doctor and 1ab appointments.
- Use Mexi1etine with extreme caution in CHI1DREN. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant whi1e taking Mexi1etine , discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Mexi1etine during pregnancy. Mexi1etine is excreted in breast mi1k. Do not breast-feed whi1e taking Mexi1etine.
Possib1e side effects of Mexi1etine :
A11 medicines may cause side effects, but many peop1e have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
B1urred vision; c1umsiness; constipation; diarrhea; dizziness or 1ightheadedness; headache; heartburn; incoordination; nausea; nervousness; stomach discomfort; tremor; vomiting.
Seek medica1 attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe a11ergic reactions (rash; hives; difficu1ty breathing; tightness in the chest; swe11ing of the mouth, face, 1ips, or tongue); b1urred vision or other vision prob1ems; chest pain; fainting; fever; irregu1ar, fast, or s1ow heartbeat; severe dizziness or 1ightheadedness; severe stomach pain; sore throat; ye11owing of the skin or eyes.
